Botox
Botox is an injectable substance used to soften and erase lines. The most dramatic benefits are achieved in softening frown lines, forehead wrinkles and “crow’s feet”. Benefits last for approximately four months. This is an extremely safe and effective procedure.

Fillers
Injectable fillers are used to minimize and soften lines around the mouth, to sculpt areas of the face that have lost tone and volume (cheeks and jowl area), to plump up scars and to add volume to lips. Juvederm, Radiesse, and Artesense are fillers that can rejuvenate your appearance. Juvederm and Radiesse are medium length fillers lasting 10-12 months giving a natural result that is gradually lessened. Artesense is a permanent filler most suitable for acne scars and deeper nasolabial lines.

Superficial Peels
Glycolic peels are a safe and effective treatment for brightening the skin’s colour and improving texture. Superficial acne scarring can be minimized. No downtime is required, minimal crusting may occur. Four to five peels at monthly intervals are recommended. Concentrations of 50-70% are used under medical supervision.

Medium Depth Peels
Trichloroacetic Acid peels are performed on patients with irregular facial pigmentation, mild wrinkles and acne scarring. Medium depth peels rejuvenate both the upper dermis and the mid dermis. Up to one week of redness and scaling may occur after the procedure. The skin appears years younger, freshened and rejuvenated.

Sclerotherapy
A solution of salt and sugar is injected into small and medium sized spider veins. This is an excellent treatment for individuals with superficial vein problems. Multiple treatments may be required. Smaller spider veins are treated by our trained and experienced RNs while the medium blue vessels are treated by Dr. Wismer. Varicose veins are not treated in this office. Sclerotherapy is not done on tanned skin and during the summer months.

Photofacials
This Intense Pulse Light system is a method of reducing redness of neck and face, blood vessels and irregular pigmentation of sun-damaged skin. Fine lines are reduced and the skin is firmer. A series of treatments are recommended. Pulses of light are applied to the skin causing enough energy to shrink blood vessels, reduce irregular pigmentation and stimulate new collagen. Slight redness will occur immediately post treatment, and rarely bruising, swelling or crusting. Most patients can return to work the following day, but first treatments are recommended with 1-2 days of downtime.

Photodynamic Treatment
Photodynamic treatment (PDT) is a combination of Intense Pulse Light (I.P.L.), Blue Light or Red Light with the topical medication Levulan or Metvix. The Blue Light/ Levulan combination may be used to treat precancerous lesions called Actinic Keratosis or in the treatment of acne. Levulan is used with I.P.L. to treat conditions such as Actinic Keratosis, sun damaged redness, irregular pigmentation and acne. The Red Light and Metvix are used in combination for treatment of Basal Cell Carcinomas and Actinic Keratoses. Downtime is expected with these treatments and may be from 2-6 days with redness, slight swelling and potential crusting.

Laser Hair Removal
The Light Sheer Diode laser is the gold standard for hair removal. Four to five sessions may be required. Laser hair removal works best for dark hair and light skinned individuals. Medium and darkly pigmented individuals may be treated with this laser, but may require additional treatments as a lower strength is necessary for safety. Redness and rarely crusting may occur after each procedure. Tanned skin is not treated.

Acne Scars
Acne scar treatment depends on the amount, type, and depth of the scars. Superficial scars can be minimized with a series of glycolic acid peels. Deeper depressed scars can be filled with the long-term injectable filler Artesense. Following the injections a series of Intense Pulse Light treatments may be recommended to lighten redness and stimulate new collagen. Deep scars with sharp edges (ice pick scars) can be treated with Trichloroacetic acid applied to individual scars. Subcision surgical technique is useful for both acne and chicken pox scars.

Skin Care Products
There are many good quality skin products available. Our office has selected three lines for their safety and efficacy. The La Roche-Posay line was developed for skin that is easily irritated and sensitive. The Alyria line is excellent for normal skin with products for anti-aging and overall skin clarity. The Skin Tx is a skin treatment line with products that can greatly minimize dark pigmentation (melasma, age spots), improve fine lines, and improve skin texture and clarity.
